in 1992
and is presently
Nepali
owned. Due to the extensive experience of the management
and the dedicated work of the staff Forest Hideaway has
an unmatched reputation, both at home and abroad, as a
well-run establishment. Additionally the Forest Hideaway
team has the knowledge and facilities to offer you top
quality advice and travel planning.

Forest Hideaway Hotel & Cottages has been

its establishment. It is certified and approved by the
Department of Tourism, Nepal.
Forest
Hideaway offers friendly and efficient services to you
as our customer. Transport can be arranged using our own
drivers and cars. Our local guides are multi-lingual and
have extensive training and experience in eco-friendly
tourist practice in and around the park. We also have
the facilities to offer computerised air ticketing and
hotel booking world-wide. City tours of the Kathmandu

Tharu Style Resort:
Known as ‘Tharu’, the indigenous people of the western
lowlands of Nepa
l
live in close harmony with nature. The local community
depends on the forest and rivers for their survival and
livelihood and still lives as they have done for
generations. In keeping with this rural way of life,
Forest Hideaway provides accommodation from budget to
deluxe, in traditional clay and timber cottages with
grass thatch roofing and indigenous
décor.
The hotel contains a library,
bar and restaurant offering a set buffet or appetizing a
la carte menu. All this is situated within a beautiful
garden.

reached Bardia recently. We have added generator to
produce electricity in case of power cut. Or guests are
provided hot shower heated with solar system during the
day and hot water bottle during the night.
Positive
Tourism:
Forest Hideaway
endeavors to pass on the positives of tourism to the
local Tharu community. The majority of the staff are
from the surrounding villages, a third of whom have
received formal certified training prior to employment.
Local tradesmen are employed on an ad hoc basis and many
local products are used in the resort where
possible.

WHERE are we?
Forest Hideaway is situated in the western lowland area
of Nepal in Thakurdwara village on the peripheries of
Royal Bardia National
Park.
HOW to get here?
Forest Hideaway is 585 km from Kathmandu and
is serviced by a daily bus. This takes approx. 14 hours
by road. Forest Hideaway can also be reached by a
similar bus service from Pokhara.
It is
also possible to fly from Kathmandu to Nepalganj. Flight
time is about an hour and jeep transfer can be arranged
from Nepalganj airport to Forest Hideaway, this transfer
takes two hours.
You can also get to the
Forest Hideaway from India via Mahendranagar on the
western Nepal-India border. Mahendranagar is twelve
hours from Delhi and an additional 3 hours to the Forest
Hideaway, by road, is required.

WHEN
to come?
The best time to visit Forest
Hideaway is between October and June. Advanced booking
is advised for November and
December.
WHAT to bring?
We
suggest that you bring: walking shoes and also rubber
sandals, modest swimwear, sun hat and protective lotion,
insect repellant, any personal medicines you require, a
torch, binoculars, extra batteries, camera and spare
film in addition to clothes suitable to the
season.

Mohan
Aryal is currently the
Managing Director of FOREST HIDEAWAY HOTEL &
COTTAGE established in 1994 at the edge of “
Bardia National Park” of far west Nepal.
He fetched decent training in “Royal Chitwan
National Park” and “King Mahendra Trust for Nature
Conservation” relating to modern wildlife before
being declared a Senior Naturalist. He had been a
jungle excursion operator since 1986. Having
gained profound experience around the national
parks of South-East Asia he helps you to quench
your thirst for flora and fauna. He
started working as a naturalist in “Royal Chitwan
National Park” and in event extended his jungle
tour to “Royal Bardia National
Park” and
other national parks in Nepal and India. He
at first visited “Royal Bardia National Park” in
1989 simply as a tour guide. The untouched
wilderness of “Royal Bardia National Park”
fascinated him so much that he was under charm of
Bardis's beauty to start his own small tourist
cottage in 1994. Ever since he has been serving
nature lovers as a guide, manager and above all as
a friend.
