Tigers of the Western Terai
February 1, 2025 · 7 min read

Bardia's Bengal tiger population has rebounded dramatically over the past decade. We explore why — and what that means for your chances of a sighting.
Decades of dedicated conservation work, community-led anti-poaching efforts, and habitat protection across the western Terai have allowed tiger numbers here to grow steadily. Unlike more crowded parks elsewhere in Nepal and India, Bardia's core zone remains comparatively quiet — fewer jeeps, more forest, and tigers that behave more naturally as a result.
Sightings are never guaranteed with a wild predator, but the odds here are genuinely good, especially across a multi-day stay with both dawn and dusk drives. Our guides track pugmarks, alarm calls from deer and langurs, and known territory patterns built up over years in the field.
Whatever you see — or don't — a Bardia safari puts you inside one of the Terai's last great tiger landscapes.
